5 Steps to Simplifying Your Coaching Business (and Life)

And he’s about to run out of air 40 metres below the surface.

I’ll tell you the story over a cerveza one day, but let’s just say it changed my entire outlook on what matters.

It happened during a desperately needed holiday in the Philippines.

I’d been working my ass off and was pretty much burned out.

What seemed like a much-needed break from my business turned into another battle of will and survival.

So with 14 hours to kill on the flight back, I did a lot of thinking, and the big question was this:

“What am I really doing it all for?”

I’d run my own business for a few years, but I was now doing more hours than I’d ever done in the day job.

8 hours hard turned into 10, then 11... you know the drill.

I hadn’t just bought myself another job, I’d become a slave to it.

Wake-up calls come in different shapes and sizes. That little aquatic excursion was mine.

I decided to ditch what I was doing and build a new business I didn’t need a holiday from.

Here’s how I did it:

1. I traded ten core clients for four
   Instead of trying to serve everyone at a minimum rate, I repositioned my premium offer and focused only on four.
2. I systemised everything
   Instead of being a slave to 8 different systems, I chopped them all in for Kajabi.
3. I created on-demand products
   Using Kajabi, I created 3 on-demand coaching products that customers could buy 24/7.
4. I made a membership
   Once I had my core offer and on-demand products dialled in, I built a membership that allowed me to serve more people in less time.
5. I built a team
   By investing time to find the right people, I leveraged my hourly charge, creating even more revenue for fewer hours worked.

Once I was done, I was making 5x the revenue and working around 4 hours a day.

How long did it take? About 6 months in total.

Don’t get me wrong, I seriously put in the hard yards to make it happen. But I knew that if I didn’t, I’d be in the same sinking boat forever.

Remember: building your coaching business is not about buying yourself another job.

It’s about building a business you don’t need a holiday from.
