Celebrate the wins…

On work-life balance...

Andy has worked for himself for 20 years, and I’ll be honest, I was often a bit jealous of him ‘bunking off’ work to go and play.

During the week, I’d see him flying his plane, diving, paddle boarding or surfing, so I had to ask him what it was all about. Shouldn’t he be working more?

“Jules, you need to celebrate the wins,” he told me.

After he’d finished each big project, he’d head on out and have some fun.

“Otherwise, your business just turns into another job,” he said.

He was right. In my career, I’d stumble from one project to the next without time to breathe. Everything in every day merged into one, and I couldn’t see any real difference.

So today, I’m celebrating a win. We’ve just finished a project for a fantastic client (see below), and I’m off into nature, the place I love the most.

I can’t tell you how rewarding it is. The Eagles are flying above, the colours of the plants and trees are beautiful, and the hills all around are like a painting.

These are things I would never have noticed before. I’d have been in the office by 7 am and leaving for home around 6 pm, mainly when it was dark at each end.

It’s OK to work hard, but there has to be meaning to it. There also has to be balance so we can enjoy this beautiful and precious planet.

Have a great Friday and a lovely weekend.

Jules x
